Over 200 children have stayed with families in and around Wells since David and Heather Lancashire arranged the first visit in 1991. A month of clean food and uncontaminated air benefits the children's immune system for 12 months. Local people, schools and organisations have generously supported us and enabled us to continue bringing children for recuperation. We send targeted medical aid to specific doctors in children's hospitals serving the areas from which the children come. We have sent these hospitals nearly £50,000 worth of medicines to date. Hospitals lack even the most basic items such as painkillers, antibiotics, insulin, heart drugs, asthma drugs, disposable gloves, syringes, cotton wool and bandages. The charity has helped to set up play schemes in two Belarusian villages to support the local community. |
